Our Story
The Serbian-American Cultural Center in Weirton was built in 1997 by the parishioners of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio. At first the people of the Church, which was founded in 1906 by early immigrants to the Upper Ohio Valley, wanted to provide a suitable place for church events and gatherings.
But as planning developed, they saw a very real need for a large, flexible and upscale meeting place to serve the entire community. Working with architects and professionals in the service industry, the present Cultural Center was the result. Facilities include a large and elegant sub-divisible ballroom, a lounge area for casual dining, a large multi-purpose room, and a smaller dining room for intimate meetings and receptions. The professional commercial kitchen and smaller lounge kitchen provide both fine and casual dining for the largest groups as well as smaller groups and restaurant service.
Since its opening the Serbian American Cultural Center has become a favorite venue for wedding receptions, business meetings and conferences, banquets, trade shows, class reunions and parties of all kinds. It has hosted every West Virginia governor since it was built, along with untold political and civic leaders. It is recognized as one of the premier facilities of its type in the entire area. Known for its fine food and service, the Center also offers catering for events large and small throughout the tri-state area.
Today the parishioners of Holy Resurrection are pleased that the Serbian-American Cultural Center has become such a well-known and valued part of the Upper Ohio Valley. It is their gift to the Valley which welcomed their forebears and which has given them so much.
The Serbian people have a wonderful reputation as domachini (good hosts) who are proud to offer their guests the very best they have in gostoprimstvo (hospitality). The Serbian-American Cultural Center is proud to carry on that tradition towards everyone who visits.
Serbs have a saying: Dobro nam dosli. It means, “Welcome to our Home.” We’re glad you visited our web site, and we look forward to meeting you and serving you!
